B.Sc (Vet Biosc), DVM (Hons) (Adelaide)
Lys joined us in 2013 and worked as a part-time nurse whilst also completing her Veterinary degree at the University of Adelaide. She was always one of the top students in her year and graduated with honours at the end of 2015. During her time as a nurse, Lys showed what a dynamo she was and it was a very easy decision to offer her a position once she graduated as a veterinary surgeon. She adapted to her new role seamlessly and has become an integral member of our veterinary team. She brings the same enthusiasm, hunger to learn and work ethic that she displayed from the very first time she stepped foot in the practice and has settled in very well to our culture. Dentistry, surgery and dermatology (skin diseases) have become areas of special interest in practice.
Although Lys now lives in the Gawler area, she’s been a bit of a traveller with her father being in the habit of buying and improving businesses around the country. Lys has inherited some of her father’s tendencies and shows distinct entrepreneurial traits. Another benefit to her somewhat nomadic upbringing was meeting her fiancé, Matt, when the family moved to Ceduna! Matt obviously decided that Lys was a better catch than the oysters he’d been farming and so came with her when she enrolled at Roseworthy for her veterinary degree. We’re happy to say that they have since tied the knot and so Lys has now changed her name from Prior to Duffield.
Lys lists her interests as being all things sport (particularly netball), food & wine and animals. As evidence of this, she and Matt share their house with Lilly, a Jack Russell X Chihuahua; and Blue, a domestic shorthair cat.
The household was distrupted in a big way by the arrival of Finn a happy, bouncing (two-legged and non-furry) addition to the family! While away on maternity leave, Lys kept busy by starting studies for her Masters in Veterinary Studies. Although she loves being a mum, staying away from work was never going to be an option for very long and we’re delighted to have her back in the fold again (laughing and smiling as ever)!
