Certificate IV Veterinary Nurse (*Currently on Sabbitical)
Georgie came to us in early 2014 as a work experience student through TAFE, where she had started her full-time nurse training. Georgie really impressed us and so we offered her a trainee position. She didn’t hesitate in accepting and switched to a part-time TAFE course to complement the skills she learnt with us. In her quiet fashion, she’s managed to work her way into the staffing group and is a popular addition to the team. As of the end of 2016, Georgie finished her TAFE training.
Having grown up with a range of animals including dogs, cats, chickens, rabbits and guinea pigs, vet nursing has been Georgies’s dream job for as long as she can remember. At the moment, her list of pets includesAndy, a Staffy; Bella, a ginger and white cat; and two chickens. Most of the time, the chickens respond to her call better than the dog (not sure if this reflects on a badly-behaved dog or well-trained chickens)!
In her spare time, Georgie enjoys music and has had lessons in piano, drums and guitar whilst growing up. She enjoys going to live music events whenever possible. Sport also plays a large part of her life having played soccer for six years. Although the soccer career was interrupted by year 12 studies then TAFE, she hopes to take this up again shortly.
As for the future, work and study is a great compromise and is allowing her to continue expanding her knowledge in the veterinary nursing field. At some point, Georgie would like to embark on a working holiday through the UK before coming back to Gawler Animal Hospital with newfound skills and experience. In the meantime, she has carved out a niche in the consulting area of the practice. Many of our clients have become very used to Georgie’s smile, laughter and gentle ways.
- As a post note, that working holiday in the UK has morphed into a working holiday around Australia. As of the end of 2019, Georgie is now on sabbatical whilst she and Jack tour around the country. She’ll be enormously missed by all concerned (clients, pets and staff!) but we’re absolutely confident that she’ll be back in due course! As such, we’re leaving her on the staff list and wishing her all the best in her adventures!!
