Dr Zoe Hamilton (BVSc, BHSc, MA, Veterinary Business Management, MRCVS)
Zoe joined Gawler Animal Hospital in September 2020 after returning home 14 years as an Expat in the United Arab Emirates, Oman, England and Kuwait.
Since childhood Zoe has wanted nothing but to work as a Veterinarian and was lucky enough to grow up in the Adelaide Hills on a small farm with lots of animals. As soon as she was old enough she undertook work experience in several practices in the Hills and in Adelaide. Her parents indulged her love of animals so she had no shortage of experience with all creatures great and small!
Zoe graduated from the University of Sydney in 2008 and immediately bought a plane ticket, packed up her 2 kelpie pups and jetted off to undertake an equine Internship in the UAE at Sharjah Equine Hospital. After completing the internship, Zoe continued to work with horses and helped establish the Sharjah Cat and Dog Shelter, the first government funded animal rescue in the UAE.
She then spent 2 years in mixed practice in the Peak District in the UK, splitting her time between horses and small animal surgery. As much as she loved the UK (and living the James Herriot life!), the warmth called her back to the desert and she returned to the UAE and worked in a small animal practice that also had a large number of Zoos and Exotic animal owners as clients. During this period Zoe was lucky enough to work with a huge number of animals including penguins, lions, tigers, rhinos, monkey’s, elephants, seals, sharks, cheetah and giraffe! This practice also fostered her love of surgery, which has continued to grow to this day. The last 4 years of Zoe’s overseas adventure were based in Kuwait where she was the Clinical Director and Senior Veterinarian of a very large Veterinary Hospital. This role kept her extremely busy and allowed her to further extend her veterinary and surgical skills, as well as gave her a taste of managing veterinary practices. 2020 saw her wanting to put down some roots, so in May she returned home to South Australia.
Zoe love’s her job and the daily challenges and continual learning it allows. Zoe is currently pursuing further qualifications in surgery and has just completed a Masters in Veterinary Business Management from the University of Liverpool.
Outside of work Zoe loves travelling, horse riding, going to the gym, camping and is looking forward to establishing a farm of her own with her Fiancée Dan and their three dogs Zurich (Kelpie), Nara (Kelpie) & Shogun (Border Collie). They already have a collection of goats, chickens, quail and sheep and hope to add some cattle and horses soon.
