Dr Christo

Dr Christo – Veterinarian

Christo grew up in Africa, where animals were a part of everyday life. As a child he could often be found with a chameleon on his head or a snake tucked under his shirt, and some mornings he would wake to the sound of chicks hatching in the incubator next to his bed. He spent many hours exploring the African bush, surrounded by dogs, cats, birds, cattle, sheep, reptiles, and the sounds of elephants, giraffes, lions, and hyenas at night.

Christo qualified as a veterinarian in 1991 after marrying Marzelle, a veterinary nurse at the time. He began his career as a government veterinarian but soon established his own private practice. Alongside his clinical work, Christo and Marzelle started breeding parrots, eventually running a commercial operation with 300 African Grey Parrots. Eventually he left government service to focus on his practice and parrot breeding before moving with his family to Adelaide in 2007.

Since arriving in Adelaide, Christo has worked in small animal practices, treating a wide variety of patients. He has a particular love for scaled and feathered animals and enjoys both the medical and surgical aspects of his work.

Outside of work, Christo enjoys painting and photography. He loves capturing wildlife, from Australian birds to African animals, using his own photographs as reference material.
